Teigan
We are pleased to announce that ARK Kid Teigan’s renovation was completed in 2024!
Teigan is a bright and loving 25-year-old with a kind heart and a warm spirit. She enjoys spending time with her family and brings joy to those around her with her strength and gentle presence. She and her family urgently needed a space that was safer, more spacious, and fully accessible.
Teigan lives with Dravet Syndrome, a rare and severe form of epilepsy that causes her to experience daily seizures. Although she can walk short distances, she experiences challenges with mobility and balance when walking; a wheelchair assists her with longer distances. Her condition requires consistent supervision and care, and she and her family were seeking a home environment that prioritized safety and accessibility.
Before the renovation, the family’s bathroom was small, difficult to navigate, and no longer functional for Teigan’s needs. Because temperature changes can trigger seizures, the old setup also added risk during bathing.
Reno Scope of Work
To meet these needs, ARK reconfigured the bathroom layout to create a larger, accessible shower, as well as installing two shower heads and multiple grab bars. This helped to create space in the new shower area to allow for safer support and use. We also relocated the vanity to the former shower location, and worked towards leveling the bathroom floor for easier access.
This renovation has transformed a daily source of stress into a space of safety, dignity, and comfort! Teigan now has a bathroom that accommodates her unique needs and supports her quality of life, while allowing her family to care for her with greater ease and peace of mind.
